REMEMBERING FASHION PHOTOGRAPHER MELVIN SOKOLSKY
The American fashion photographer best known for his gravity-defying Bubble series was born in New York City in 1933. Sokolsky rose to prominence with his editorial work for publications like Harper’s Bazaar, The New York Times, and Vogue throughout the 60s. While never formally trained, the creative maverick made waves with his inventive and unique approach to fashion photography. Having joined the Harper's Bazaar team at just 21 years old it was his fantastical approach to image-making that perfectly complemented the decade's space-age and youthquake aesthetics, with his irreverent Bubble series being his most notable work. The futurist fever dream featured models encased in acrylic bubbles as they were hoisted above the streets of Paris as they donned the 1963 collections.
REST IN PEACE HM QUEEN ELIZABETH II
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the world’s longest-serving head of state who led her subjects for more than seven decades, has died at the age of 96. Her extraordinary reign, which began in 1952, spanned 15 British prime ministers and 14 U.S. presidents. She inherited the throne of a country almost broken by the legacy of war, and remained upon it through a time of epochal change both for the U.K. and the world. On behalf of the Möels & Co. community, we offer our sincere condolences to the Royal Family on the very sad news of the passing of Her Majesty the Queen. We pay tribute to her remarkable life of service. Our thoughts are with the people of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.
AND THE GOLD WINNER IS… MÖELS 528!
The A' Design Award and Competition aims to create a global awareness and understanding of Good Design by promoting, recognizing and highlighting the very best design work from all countries in all design disciplines and in all industries. The ultimate goal of the A' Design Award is to push designers, artists, architects, agencies and brands from across the globe to create superior products and projects that benefit and advance society. A' Design Award is very prestigious thanks to its Grand Jury Panel, Fair Voting Methodology, Immense Press Network and its Valuable and Coveted Design Prize. Entries are judged by 227 experts from around the globe including leading designers, scholars, professionals and media members. Each jury member is required to sign a jury agreement and follow a code of conduct. In addition, jurors may not be employees of the participating companies to avoid conflicts of interest. This jury process has been designed to lead to a more fair and equitable awards process, with no single juror exercising undue influence on the results of the awards. Möels 528 won the golden prize in the jewelry, eyewear and watch design category of the 2022 edition. The awards ceremony was held yesterday July 2 at Teatro Sociale in the historic city centre of Lake Como, Italy, and Betina Menescal was there to receive her award.
Bravo Betina!
The DAY THE first MÖELS 528 TIMEPIECES WERE deliverED
Dear Möels&Co family,
Today, I would like to share something special with you.
After 2 years of hard work, this is the moment the first Möels 528 timepieces were delivered to our Brazilian backers, Walter Schalka and Mônica Schalka (right), and their Spanish Captain, Christian Cuevas, and Chef, Natalia Núñez (center). Walter and Mônica had their yacht custom built in Gdańsk, Poland, and they kindly asked us if it would be possible to hand-deliver their rewards before their world tour departure on July 10th. Thanks to the Ronda fulfilment team in Switzerland and our Polish friend, Mateusz Gliniewicz (far left), we were able to fulfill this special request, and on July 9th at 9 am, four Möels 528 were hand-delivered at the Hilton Hotel in Gdańsk.
Thank you all for joining our journey!

How Yves Klein Tricked the World with This Iconic Photograph
Yves Klein was the most influential, prominent, and controversial French artist to emerge in the 1950s. He is remembered above all for his use of a single color, the rich shade of ultramarine that he made his own: International Klein Blue. But the success of his sadly short-lived career lay in attacking many of the ideas that underpinned the abstract painting that had been dominant in France since the end of the Second World War. For some critics he is a descendent of Marcel Duchamp, a prankster who lampooned settled understandings of painting and opened art up to new media.
The Unsung Story of the Greatest Industrial Designer
Outside of the field of product and transportation design, too few people know who Raymond Loewy was. The best-known industrial designer, founder of the industrial design profession, and member of the pantheon of our greatest designers, it is time for wider recognition of this amazing man. Coming to the United States from France in 1919 at the age of twenty-five with $40 in his pocket, Loewy brought with him a love of trains, cars, and good design, but he soon also developed a love of America. He was featured in Fortune and Life magazines and made the cover of Time. Forty years ago, he was engagingly interviewed on TV’s 60 Minutes. Called “the frog” and “a refrigerator designer” by leaders of the auto industry, he created some of the most visionary automobiles in American history. He trained and developed dozens of other top designers. Today we see his work every time we see Air Force One, the Shell Oil or Exxon logos, or the Greyhound dog on a bus. Over his sixty-year career, he reshaped the world as we know it. This is his story.
MÖELS 528 IS GOLD WINNER!
The A' Design Award & Competition is one of the world’s largest, most prestigious and influential design accolades and one of the highest achievements in design and I am delighted to be one of the winners of the 2021-22 edition. This has come as a pleasant surprise, considering that I am new to product design and watchmaking. I feel very privileged to obtain this International recognition at age 22 and I would like to thank the 227 members of the International Jury for acknowledging Möels 528 with the golden prize in the jewellery, eyewear and watch design category. I truly appreciate it, but I can’t take all of the credit so I would like to duly recognize my parents Marcus Menescal and Pollyana Greca who supported me from the very beginning, Mr. Beat Geiser and René Wolf from Wolf Suisse Switzerland, Carol Yau, May Chan and Sally Yau from Wolf Suisse Asia, Felix Rudin from Ronda Time Center, Manfred Pucher and Manuela Krusch from Hirsch straps, Stefan Brown and Fouad Tolaib from Renderologists and David Gonçalves who helped me making the promo film. It would be impossible for me without the help and support and I convey my heartiest appreciation to all of you. Your Möels 528 package will now be delivered with the A' Design Award winner logo printed on the top cover to highlight the embedded design quality and increase the product value. This accomplishment will be my lifetime motivation for all my future designs and I intend to live up to the level of success this award demands.
